How does AI learn its values and why does this matter for people?

The learning mechanisms of AI are like those of humans, including the way it learns values for decision-making.  We have been studying how reinforcement learning of values compares in AI and people.  Furthermore, we have been investigating the interactions between AI and humans, finding, for example, that AI tends to homogenize values across societies.
